Edinburgh International Festival: Perhaps the world's most comprehensive arts festival in the world, the Edinburgh International Festival turns the city of Edinburgh into a mecca for lovers of opera, classical music, jazz, theatre, jazz, comedy, film and books. The festival starts each year on the second Sunday of August. Provisional programmes for the year's events are usually available around March of every year and booking lines open up mid-April.

The Edinburgh Jazz Festival: runs for 10 days in August and attracts world-class Jazz and Blues musicians.Amongst the performances you will find jam sessions, barbecues and plenty of free outdoor events, in Edinburgh's Grassmarket.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival: is now considered on par with Cannes and Berlin Film Festivals. The festival features a wide range of international premières, retrospectives and short films from budding filmmakers.

The Royal Mile: The Royal Mile is the main thoroughfare through Edinburgh's Old Town and probably the oldest street in Edinburgh. The mile long stretch of cobble stones runs from the Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and is divided into four sections; Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street and Canongate.

Calton Hill: Calton Hill sits on one of Edinburgh's main hills in the city centre. It's grassy slopes sport two observatories and the famous if unfinished replica of the Parthenon in Athens. Visiting the park is a welcome break from the busy streets of the city and it offers beguiling views over Edinburgh.

We are happy to recommend the
Beluga Canteen Restaurant located on Chambers Street which offers a choice of bar or fine fining menus. Reservations can be made by calling the Beluga Restaurant directly or by the reception of the Hotel.Launched in April 2001, Beluga has added a new dimension to the already buzzing Edinburgh social scene and has fast gained a reputation as one of city's hot spots to eat and drink.

We would also like to recommend the
Conservatory Restaurant at the Royal Ettrick Hotel in Polwarth.
