How To Reach Us

Coming by Car from M74:
If you are travelling north up the M74, at Abington, you take the A702 road through Biggar and West Linton which takes you into the south of Edinburgh. Once you have passed the Pentland Hills on your left, you will reach the Edinburgh City Bypass( A720 ). Take the slip road left on to the Bypass (signposted Airport and Edinburgh West) and travel west past the first junction to Colinton and Dreghorn, on to the second junction (signposted A70, Baberton, Currie, Colinton and Wester Hailes).

Section "B":
Take this slip road off to the left, down a hill to a Tee Junction at which you turn right. (Watch out here as the road becomes two way). In about 100 yards, you reach a large roundabout (Clovenstone) at which you turn right (go round 270 degrees). Go up a hill (dual carriageway) until you reach a junction with traffic lights (A70). Cross straight over towards Colinton down Gillespie Road and in about 250 yards, take the first road to the left which is Spylaw Avenue - a wide tree lined street. Go to the end of Spylaw Avenue (over a small crossroads) and Spylaw Bank House is the last house on the left between two gate posts and up a red gravel drive.

Coming by Car from A68:
If you come up the A68 through Jedburgh to Edinburgh you go through Dalkeith and a couple of miles later you come to a large roundabout with traffic lights at the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720). Turn left (west) signposted the Airport and travel to the 4th junction (signposted A70, Baberton, Currie, Colinton and Wester Hailes). Then follow directions in Section "B" above.

Alternative Routes From N.E.England:
The A1 is a longer route and has heavier traffic than the other routes. The A68 is more scenic -over the Roman road north of Corbridge and spectacular vistas at the Scottish Border. The third route is up the A697 at Morpeth and through Wooler and Coldstream - this route is also attractive although the roads are not as straight as the A68 or A1. Whichever route you take, when you are just south of Edinburgh, turn left onto the Edimburgh City Bypass (A720) signposted to the Airport. You travel west along the City Bypass until you reach the Baberton Turnoff (signposted A70, Baberton, Currie, Colinton and Wester Hailes). Then follow directions in Section "B" above.

Coming by Car from M8:
Travel east along the M8 towards Edinburgh. When you reach the Hermiston Gait roundabout at the end of the M8, stay in the 2nd left lane.

Section "C":
Turn right at this roundabout (270degrees) but don't go on to the Edinburgh City Bypass - take the left slip road up the hill towards the A71 roundabout (with traffic lights). Keep in the centre lane and turn left towards the city centre. In about 300 yards you reach a roundabout with traffic lights where you turn right towards Wester Hailes down a dual carriageway. You will arrive at a set of traffic lights at Wester Hailes (Odeon cinema on the left). Go straight over and again at the next (small) traffic lights until you reach a roundabout (Clovenstone). Go straight over here up a hill on the dual carriageway until you reach traffic lights at the A70 (Gillespie Crossroads). Go straight over here for about 250 yards towards Colinton and Spylaw Avenue is the first road on the left hand side (there are two roads very close together) and Spylaw Avenue is quite a tight turn left. Go straight to the end of Spylaw Avenue (over a small crossroads) and I am the last house on the left, between two stone gateposts and up a red gravel drive.

Coming by Car from M90 and North:
Travel south down the M90, across the Forth Road Bridge. Take the slip road off the south side of the Bridge, which indicates the A8000 until it joins the M9 from Stirling. Pass under the Newbridge roundabout (taking care of the speed cameras in the dip) and then take the left slip road onto the M8 towards Edinburgh. In about 2 miles you will reach the Hermiston Gait roundabout at the end of the M8 and stay in the 2nd left lane. Then follow directions in Section "C" above.

Coming by Car from Stirling and M9:
Travel along the M9 from Stirling towards Edinburgh. At the end of the M9 you will pass under the Newbridge roundabout (taking care of the speed cameras in
the dip) and then take the left slip road onto the M8 towards Edinburgh. In about 2 miles you will reach the Hermiston Gait roundabout at the end of the M8 and stay in the 2nd left lane. Then follow directions in Section "C" above.

Coming by Train:
There are 2 railway stations in Edinburgh, Haymarket and Waverley. From Haymarket station you can take a taxi or bus number 44 or 44A from Dalry Road (at the exit of the railway station turn right, walk for few metres and you will find the street on the right hand-side. If you disembark at Waverley Station you can take a taxi or bus number 44 (or 44A) on Princes Street which is going to "Balerno". (Please note that you require the exact change!). To get to Princes Street walk out of Waverley station- up the ramp to the street called Waverley Bridge. Turn right and walk up to Princes Street. Turn left along Princes Street to the 44 bus stop (make sure you catch the bus on the Princes Street Gardens and Castle side (not the side the shops are on) and ask the driver to let you know when you reach the Spylaw Bank Road bus stop. Now read section "B" below.

Coming by Bus from the city centre:
Catch a No 44 bus at any of the bus stops on St Andrew's Square, Princes Street (castle side only), the West End or Haymarket with the sign on the front saying "Balerno". Ask the driver to let you know when you reach the Spylaw Bank Road bus stop. Now read section "B" below.

Coming by Plane+Bus:
If you take the airport (Airlink Number 100) bus into the centre of Edinburgh, you can get off at Haymarket (opposite the railway station). At Haymarket there are four roads, make your way to Dalry Road and find the 44 bus stop - near the junctions and on the opposite side of the road to the station - i.e going up the hill. The number 44 bus (there are 2 different companies-Lothian and First Bus that run this route and either will do) will say "Balerno" on the front. Ask the driver to let you know when you reach the Spylaw Bank Road bus stop. Now read section "B" below.

- Section "B":
When you get off the bus - walk 10 yards up the hill and turn left into Spylaw Bank Road. Walk up the hill for about 100 yards until you reach Spylaw Avenue on the right. Cross the road into Spylaw Avenue and I am the very first house on the right hand side ( at the corner) between two stone gate posts and up a  red gravel drive.

Coming by Plane+Car:
Drive out of Edinburgh Airport until you come to the roundabout at the A8. Take the left hand slip road up the hill onto the A8 going into Edinburgh.
Travel along A8 for about 1 mile- keeping in the left hand lane and take the left fork towards the large roundabout (with traffic lights ) that takes you onto the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720). To get onto the Bypass you need to go 270 degrees round the roundabout. Once on the Edinburgh City Bypass, after about a quarter of a mile, take the first slip road off to the left towards Hermiston Gait. Then take another left hand slip road in about 200 yards which bends left and avoids the Hermiston Gait roundabout. After about 500 yards, the road then meets up again with traffic coming up from the Hermiston Gait roundabout. Go up to the top of the hill where there is a roundabout with traffic lights at the A71. Keep in the centre lane and turn left towards Edinburgh.
