If you are seeking somewhere unique and memorable for your Edinburgh visit, Southside is an excellent choice.

To make the best of your visit you will want to be in the heart of the city, near all the attractions and events. Locals and tourists converge to make the south side one of the most interesting and colourful areas of the capital. The house is situated only a few minutes from the Meadows and Holyrood Park in the centre of the University Campus. The house at 8 Newington Road was built in the 1860s and is part of a Victorian Terrace which includes at No 10 next door, West Newington House (1805) formerly occupied among others by Thomas Nelson the publisher.

Among the early owners of 8 Newington Road (Southside) were Andrew Somerville the Surgeon and later Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Ross. The Caplan family, well-known Edinburgh drapers owned the House between 1924 and 1953. In 2000 Southside was lovingly restored bringing back many of its original features and creating a little gem. The vicinity is rich in history and heritage with links to many historical and literary figures.

Rooms at Southside have been carefully created for your comfort and relaxation; each one contemporary, colourful and well equipped, and all en suite with showers. Breakfast at Southside is an important occasion! We try to cater for most tastes and feature the famous Southside Grill as well as daily specialities. Cheeses, oatcakes, bakery and fresh fruit salad, complement the hot selection and we offer an excellent selection of teas and coffees, including cappuccino, espresso and milk. Most probably you may have to give lunch a miss.
