Highfield guest house is located in the southern part of Edinburgh, in a quiet and residential area. There is an excellent public transport system to the city centre. If you like to walk it would take you about 30 minutes to reach us from the city centre. The airport is a long way outisde of the city limits so take the city link bus, it leaves every 10 minutes and if you plan on using it when you fly back, ask for the return fare, as this will save you some money! Journey time is about 30 minutes. The bed and breakfast is located in Mayfield Road, at number 83. There are some restaurants, bars and shops close to the property or if you prefer you can reach the city centre with a short bus ride. |

By Plane: the nearest airport is in Edinburgh. From the airport, you can take the Airlink, bus number 100, leaving directly from the exit and get off in Princes street, in the city centre. Walk up to Princes street and turn right, walk along to the next street junction. Turn right on to North bridge and then cross the road to the side away from the castle. Take any one of these bus numbers, 3, 7, 8, 29, 31, 37 or 49 (there are 3 bus stops on North bridge covering all of these buses).Remember, that you need the exact money as the driver has no change! The bus journey time from the city centre is about 12 minutes and you need to get off at the stop opposite the entrance to the Royal Blind school (second stop on Mayfield gardens) - ask the driver to help you with this. Cross the road and go down East Savile road and then down West Savile road to the end. There turn right on to Mayfield road and we are just down on the right hand side. It takes longer to type this than make the journey!
By Car: from whatever direction you are driving to Edinburgh join the city bypass (A720) and head either east or west to about a point due south of the city centre on the bypass: "Straition Junction" (A720/A701). Leave the bypass at this junction and head into the city - north on the A701! Go through 3 sets of traffic lights (ignore pedestrian lights in this count) and at the third set you will have just descended Liberton Brae (hill). Drive forward 5 metres and take the left road - Mayfield Road. We are another 800 metres along this road (through another set of traffic lights) on the right hand side.
By Train: the nearest railway station is Waverley. From the station, you have to reach the North bridge. Take any one of these bus numbers, 3, 7, 8, 29, 31, 37 or 49 (there are 3 bus stops on North bridge covering all of these buses) and then as above. |
