Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and the seat of the Scottish Parliament. There is much to satisfy many different tastes, from the historic, architectural and literary wealth present as part of the living city, to the vibrant festivals that take place in Edinburgh throughout the year. With the backdrop of the Castle, Edinburgh can also boast one of the most beautiful shopping streets in the world.

The old town offers the visitor a view of town living across several centuries in the 'lands' and 'closes' which stretch from the Castle at one end of the Royal Mile, to the Palace of Holyroodhouse at the other, with many museums and houses to explore along the way. Just across Princess Street Gardens, a quiet floral walk in the middle of the bustle of Scotland's Capital, is the grand elegance of James Craig's vision of a Georgian New Town.

Edinburgh is also host to the
Edinburgh International Festival of Music and Drama, a three-week extravaganza with many world-famous individuals, companies and orchestras participating. Alongside the International Festival, there is also the Fringe Festival, a less formal event which has been the springboard for many of today's present national names.

There are many other festivals and events each year, including Arts, Drama, Crafts, Sciences, Music, Literary and Film festivals, as well, of course, as
the internationally renowned Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Edinburgh also hosts the largest New Year Party in the world. A feast of music and festivities which begins at Christmas and builds up to Hogmanay, the evening before New Years Day.
