Located in the heart of Edinburgh, the Elder York offers a quality standard of accommodation with the best of Scottish hospitality. We are adjacent to the redeveloped Bus Station and only a 5 minute walk from the Waverley Rail Station. We are in the midst of Edinburgh's new town in a grade A listed building on third and fourth floor and we are the most centrally located guest house.
If you are in the mood for a film or show, there are plenty of options to chose from, if you want to see the beginnings of Scotland's next big comedians, then the Stand Comedy Club is the place to come, located round the corner at 5 York Place. Our newest cinema Complex the Warner Village is only a stones throw away. It has 12 screens and 3 gold screens which come with waitress service and comfortable luxurious seats. The centre also boasts pubs, restaurants and even a nightclub.
Edinburgh is full of interesting sights to see, being in the centre, we are only 10 minutes away from; The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, walking through Princes Street Gardens, Scott Monument, National Portrait Gallery and Calton Hill only to name a few. There are many restaurants nearby, although we do lean towards a large number of Italian restaurants, thanks to our substantial Italian community, you can also find varieties of Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Spanish, French, Indian, Mediterranean and African cusines alongside the International Fusion and Proudly Scottish venues.
In the last five years, Edinburgh has gradually seen a major gentrification of its watering holes, with many old locals being gutted and refitted as preclub venues, cafe bars and wine bars. More recently large bars have also dance floors and DJ's to compete with the pay at the door venues. There are two things you are most likely to be intending to take home with you as mementos of your trip to Edinburgh: a bottle of good malt whisky and something tartan. You will find both very easily, in fact right on your door step. There are 2 major shopping centres here, St James Centre and Princes Mall which everyone refers to Waverley Market. George Street has more exclusive, upmarket shops and a must of course is a shopping trip to Harvey Nichols which is adjacent or the famous Jenners, the oldest independent department store. |
