Dunstane House was built in 1852 to the design of the famous architect William Playfair, who also designed the nearby Donaldson's College for the Deaf. |
 Dunstane Villa, as Dunstane House was first named, was the private residence of the Ross family, famous for their Edinburgh Castle Rock and other specialist Scottish confectionery. The bandstand in Princes Street gardens takes its name from the Dunstane family.
