Scotland
- Art and Culture
Scotland's
art scene is dominated by the cities Edinburgh and Glasgow, though
the modern Aberdeen Art Gallery has a excellent space exhibiting
the work of contemporary British artists, and some lovely Pre-Raphaelite
paintings.
Edinburgh is home to the National Gallery of Scotland - which houses
a significant collection of European Art - and the Scottish National
Gallery of Modern Art with collections representing the major movements
of the Twentieth Century and a special section for Scottish painters.
Glasgow
was Europe's City of Culture in 1990 and boasts the excellent if
eclectic Burrell Collection, the superb Kelvingrove Art Gallery
and Museum, and many of the buildings in Glasgow bear the idiosyncratic
stamp of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
